Shepard Steering Gears: Steering recall
NHTSA campaign 23E094000 · 274 units potentially affected · filed Dec 18, 2023
What's wrong
R.H. Sheppard Co., Inc. (R.H. Sheppard) is recalling certain steering gear assemblies, model numbers, HD94P, M100P, HD94S, M110P, M83P, MD83, SD110P, and XD120P. The steering gear assemblies may have been assembled incorrectly with fewer recirculating balls than are required, which may result in a loss of steering control.
Why it matters
A loss of steering control increases the risk of a crash.
The fix
R.H. Sheppard will work with the affected vehicle manufacturers to replace the defective gears, free of charge. Vehicle manufacturers will be notified in December 2023. Owners may contact R.H. Sheppard customer service at 1-717-637-3751.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
